Baptism (Christenings)

Baptism or "Christening" gives families an opportunity to thank God for the gift of a child, but it is mainly the means by which someone becomes a member of God's family, the Church.

Families that live in St. Luke's parish can have their child/children baptised here but we usually have quite a long waiting list as there are so many young families living in our neighbourhood. Families that live outside the parish but have a strong link with us can also bring their children for baptism, but this usually requires the permission of the Vicar of the parish where they live.

If you have a baby or child whom you would like to have baptised please  come along to a morning service and speak to Paul, Barry or Linda to arrange a booking.

Baptism isn't only for babies or small children, and we can baptise someone of any age who has decided to believe and trust in Jesus Christ. For youths and adults this is usually linked to a special Service called Confirmation where the Bishop lays hands on candidates for them to receive the Holy Spirit of God.

Baptisms are usually held on the first Sunday of each month

Representatives of our congregation will visit you to explain what Baptism is about and to answer any further questions.
